Went to Lepe with Gwyn. Looked damn good when we arrived again, oh yeah. We were a bit later than planned, arrived about 3pm, and it took me longer than normal to rig up (downhaul snapped again - bloody Naish extension) - lack of haste would turn out to be to our cost big time.

Was loving it at the start, 5.2 solidly powered - again. The chop was lining up much better for jumping than it does at Hillhead, and I got in a few good hops. Only one duck gybe made dry on the inside out of 3 attempts, but overall was sailing very well. Sun came out good and proper and I was thinking this is all too good to be true.

Which it was. After 45 mins of quality sailing....wind died. Came in for an ice-cream and a sunbathe, and pontificated with Gwyn about what had caused the wind to die. Then we noticed the clouds moving in from the north - maybe it was the bad weather the midlands had been experiencing, that was moving south and killing any thermal effect. Wind turned a bit more offshore and threatened to fill in. A couple of guys went out again and planed on and off. Gwyn took the bait, but unfortunately for him the wind then properly dropped off, so I didn't go out again.

Grrrr why didn't we turn up an hour earlier. Felt a bit sorry for Gwyn since he hadn't had a sail for ages and he had to come at the start to change up from his 5.0 to 5.7, so he missed much of the good period. (Dunno why he changed up - he couldn't get going, but I was fine on my 5.2, and on a smaller board than him, and I'm bigger than him as well. Maybe I am getting better!!!) Still, for me was worth it for the quality 45 mins on the water, and on balance a great 3 days and I'm a happy man.

LONG LIVE WINDY SUMMER 2004!!!!!
